“He said, ‘I like this song you wrote called Hallelujah.’ In fact, he started doing it in concert. He said, ‘How long did that take you to write?’ And I said, ‘Oh, the best part of two years.’ He said, ‘Two years?’ Kinda shocked. And then we started talking about a song of his called I And I from Infidels. I said, ‘How long did you take to write that?’ He said, ‘Oh, 15 minutes.’ I almost fell off my chair. Bob just laughed.”
Leonard Cohen (‘Bob’ is Bob Dylan.)
It took me a year to write this post.
Wait, that’s not true.
It took me a year to be ready to write this post – to get a feel for what I wanted this place to be, to build the blog around it (three times), to navigate around my stuff, and to allow for all the shifts that happened in my work in 2009.
Once I was ready, writing the first post took no time at all.
I’m a percolator. An unfolder. That’s just how I roll.
And while the ideas sometimes take a while to get to ready, the thing that takes the longest is the resistance. Resisting the time it takes. Resisting the process. Resisting the waiting.
Part of me wants to push, push, push. Get this thing done, already! I should be blogging! Yesterday!
But things take as long as they take.
And the more I trust that the thing will reveal itself in good time, the sooner it does.
I love how that works.
So here it is, the shiny new blog that took year but not really.
Welcome, welcome, welcome.

You new blog is gorgeous. And totally worth waiting for.
Big congrats!
And as a fellow percolator, I get it. And I get the resisting-the-time-it-takes bit too.
You are already spinning much smartness here. And that makes me happy dance.

Hooray! Hallelujah!
It’s perfect.
(And it took me considerably more than a year to start mine too, so you’re in really good company with the gestation thing.)
So happy to be here. Blogwarming!

I’m eager to see what percolates and unfolds here–in whatever time frame it takes, because whatever that is will be the *right* time.

Oh, I love that quote! And I can completely relate to the part about wanting to be doing the thing already. The trust part is hard. And important. Thanks for the reminder.
And happy new blog

Yay!!!
I remember very well that night when Heidi and I were pestering you on Twitter to start a blog because we wanted to read more of what you had to write, and you said you had a baby blog (that wasn’t about babies!) – well, that must have happened about nine months ago now… Perfect timing! The baby arrived when he (she?) was ready, and it’s a gorgeous baby you’ve got here!
Welcome into this world, baby blog that’s not about babies!

I came across your blog on a twitter search for other bloggers starting off. I too have started a couple of blogs, and truly enjoy the medium. I think you are off to a great start, and you clearly have a lot of great support.
I’m looking forward to future posts!

And it takes a baby nine months to get ready to breath ~ and then it happens in an instant and they’re not only breathing, but wailing, singing, calling, laughing… !
Bringing you virtual bread and salt (and a good olive oil for dipping) to your lovely blogwarming. It’s a warm place, just perfect. (Which I why I hired you… let’s see how long THAT gestates ~ ha!)

Hey Sweetness,
As far as I’m concerned you are zoomin’ along on the FAST TRACK! Love, love L-O-V-E the new blog look. I will come here to visit whenever I need a smile.
And of course it took Mr. Cohen a year to write that song….. Anything THAT GOOD takes time and is WAY worth waiting for. And that of course, includes you * picture an image of a bubbling pot overflowing with lovely, quirky hearts*.
Your adoring fan and friend,
Chris

No worries! That’s how I roll too! I’m a thinker…very internalized and introspective. It’s just how I am and I accept that. Take the course your own way. Tune out all the ‘noise’ out there.
Oh…and congrats on being up and running! Everything looks great.
Peace,
Nate

Best of luck.

This feels like a safe and comfortable place. I’m very much a percolator who often feels pushed; when that happens, I’ll come here and breathe. Thank you for this place of serenity.

Nice! Welcome to the blogosphere! Thanks for the hello via Facebook, too!
I have yet to have my website up and blogging is still a relative fancy…
I just saw a broadcast of Leonard Cohen’s 1970 Isle of Mann (?) concert… 40 years later!
So all great things take time… Enjoy the ride and say hello when you have time…
